While browsing around for more information on Saam Faramand’s work, I happened upon the new Scissor Sisters video. Created by the Barcelona creative collective, Canada, who are currently signed with the same production company as Saam (Partizan). It’s incredible.

With the holiday season, I am a bit behind on my feeds and missed the post on Motionographer.

In the early weeks of January 2010 The XX teamed up with acclaimed music video director Saam Farahmand for a unique audio-visual collaboration. XX: A sculpture of the album saw Saam Creating a 3D physical interpretation of the XX’s album. Utilising film, light and sound via three specially created audio-visual units it gave visitors an opportunity to become totally immersed in the album in a whole new way.

Last year, The Knife coupled with Hotel Pro Forma to produce an electro opera based on Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species entitled, Tomorrow, in a Year. The opera incorporated various visual electronic displays that provided a unique take on traditional opera asthetic. A video of the performance can be seen below and a complete description of the performance concept can be found here.

A studio version is being produced by The Knife in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock. The album will be released February 2, 2010 online and in stores March 9, 2010.

‘Tomorrow, In A Year’ is a unique musical project. Richard Dawkins’ gene trees have formed the basis of some of the musical composition, artificial sounds have been mixed with field recordings, with the music inspired by everything from the different stages of a bird learning its melody, to a song based on Darwin’s loving letters about his daughter Anne. These are compositions that challenge the conventional conception of opera music.

Of Note:
I adore Mt. Sims and had the pleasure of meeting and hosting him when he played in ATL in 2004 – good to see he’s still up to great things. I also adore The Knife and so I’m planning on picking this album up as soon as it’s released.

RJDJ, the augmented music generation software for iPhone, has just released their latest collaborative effort with artist Little Boots.

RJDJ is a software application that creates music based on your surroundings. It takes pre-made ‘scenes’ as the basic building block, the sounds generated around you and your interactions with the mobile device to create new mix every time you listen.

Originally leading the girl group Dead Disco, Little Boots is about to release her first solo record and this is a great promotional piece for it. While I was a fan of hers before, I’ve also become more connected and find it more addictive when I become a part of it.
